Mobile Broadband

Mobile broadband is a service that will be increasingly used in the future. Although the service has been available from mobile operators for years, its use is currently rapidly increasing because speeds are increasing and are at lower rates.

The mobile broadband service is comparable to internet broadband services that are provided via ASDL and cable. The major advantage of mobile broadband is that it does not require a fixed connection with a network as a result of which, for example the internet is available anywhere. The same advantage was responsible for the tremendous growth in the number of mobile users throughout the world in the nineties.

The expectation is that the use of mobile broadband services will increase due to the fact that new mobile data equipment is becoming available. For example, in addition to WIFI, laptops will in the future also incorporate an adapter for mobile broadband networks. Wireless camera monitoring or the remote operation of equipment will also be increasingly used due to the availability of faster and more reliable mobile connections. The collaboration of operators, ISPs and suppliers, such as within the Mobile Broadband Initiative, accelerate this development.

Applications such as mobile e-mail, internet and telecommuting are expected to rapidly gain in popularity for business users as well as consumers. The mobile evolution towards IP-based networks and applications will produce new converging services here as well, such as completely mobile office environments for computers and telephony. Triple play offerings will become available for consumers in fixed as well as mobile versions.

New network technologies such as HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) and LTE (Long Time Evolution) and the availability of additional radio spectrum are expected to give the service an additional boost.
